I have uploaded a few pictures that I drew since I came into here.. Just I needed somewhere to put them up!!

And today was a costly day! Spent 23 pounds on my shopping.. Phew now that is a lot of money!! but UK on its own is pretty costly! Bournemouth is cheap though!! cheaper of the costly lot!! A average weekly expense for a person who doesnt drink or smoke would range somewhere between 30-50 pounds!! Provided u are not a shopping freak!!

Cooking!! We have started doing something eatable these days!! For the past week we have been cooking good food and today was also like that. Good to eat something nice!! Thought these people dont really eat spicy stuff!!

Today the network was down so no updates on what I really did in my lab!! There was this very good drawing lesson from Steve though!! !I enjoyed it!!

Rest of today is chilling out and sleep early I guess

Well pretty much ordinary these two days!!! nothing much happening!! Just that sleep late till 11. Then get up walk to lab.. Maya project is going on!! Creating a still image in maya corruption!! I have managed to generate a idea on the topic!!

Now all that is left is to model the whole image and complete it as soon as possible. May be will try writing my own textures for maya and stuff!! All depends on when I complete my project!! Let me wait and see!!

Apart from that just a bit of socializing and a few chats with friends in India!! Guess I am growing used up a lot to this atmosphere!! But apart from that it all depends on how well you perform!!

This week on the whole has been pretty relaxed!! But once I start full fledged then it is gonna get tough!!Teaching for this sem ends this friday! So I guess there will be 2-3 weeks full time to decide on my Animation software development project!!

Two days did nothing much but then that is more like it!!

Preface to "DEE for DON"- The novel

Sunday.. June 2

The story starts here this very day in a small coastal village far away from the keen and the ever needy eyes of the city busy dwellers offset from the congestion. Life was quiet her until this very day. The six hundred odd members of the fishing community inhabiting this village forms a small but a well knit community. Their only source of contact with the outside world is the time when their catch is sold and also this serves as the only source of income.

This was the life Abdullah was accustomed to and this was the family he had been living with ever since he was born fifty years ago. He had seen quite a few generations and also seen a number young and healthy legs replacing the old ones and he longed for such a happening in his life. He had been alone for over twenty years now from when his wife passed away. He chose not to remarry but now age was taking the toll in his life.

He was beginning to hate god for leaving him alone and so poor until the moment he had met the young well built man in the yellow t-shirt and a black pant yesterday and he had introduced himself as John. This man had a favor from Abdullah and had said he would pay for this favor. All he wanted was to take him and his friend for ride on his raft into the ocean. He had also asked Abdullah not to ask him any questions as to why this was to be done. He had also told that there would be a rendezvous with a ship a mile into the ocean and he would get dropped there. Also Abdullah was to forget everything about this and tell no one for which he would be paid a lakh rupees.

Now that was huge amount for Abdullah. It has been years and years of turmoil and still Abdullah never managed to find a sizeable saving. But this was a huge jack pot for him. He could buy himself a motor boat. Employ a few. A new metal net and he could become a master in the locality. An unchallenged master. He would receive all the care and attention he needed. He could spend his final days in his tent happy if not happier than ever before.

He had accepted the offer and immediately a advance of 20000 took him by surprise. Apart from being surprised he was also confused as to why a 1 mile trip into the ocean would be paid a lakh rupees. But he did not care.. As long as he got the money he was happy.

Abdullah had never known how a bank operated nor had he a big enough amount to deposit in the bank. What he earned he spent. After all there was no one he has to save this money for. The little bit of money he was left with he put it in a pigeon hole in his house. To him that was the safest place he could think of. And he had put this 20000 there. But now he was a worried man. How could a pigeon hole safely secure a lakh rupees. He decided to shift the money somewhere else as soon as he returns back from the trip.

A knock on the door suddenly interrupted his thoughts. He stood up and walked to the door. Was it time to go? Was it that late? Had he been sleeping so long? He did not have time to freshen up . So he decided to start immediately. He opened the door to find two men standing one among them was the one who had paid him yesterday. “Hello Abdullah!!” greeted the man who called himself John. “This is my friend Joe and he will be making this trip along with me”. “You know my name??? How do you know that??” The manner in which this man had introduced himself took him by surprise. Not many in the village where he had spent the whole life knew his name. Everyone called him “dada”. But this man knew everything. It was just a few moments he had met him and now he knows everything!!! The man opened up his back pack drawing out a wad of notes and thrust it to him. “So lets start its time!!” Abdullah could sense the hurry in his voice. He started out with the two men without any questions. All the other rafts had left for fishing and his was the only one on the beach. As he was walking there he could sense the tension in John.

Joe- As he was introduced to him had chosen to stay calm and not to utter the word so far. But now he had suddenly stopped and was fumbling his pockets for something. John suddenly turned back and shouted “ What happened Joe?? Its time already. We have to get out of here before they find us!!”. Joe suddenly stopped searching and felt his pockets and smiled confirming that his search was fruitful and he had found what he was searching for.

John turned back and started to walk and suddenly Joe called out to him. This was the first word this guy has spoken. Abdullah and John turned back to Joe to see him holding a pistol pointed right into John’s face. “ Hey Joe what are you doing!” Abdullah was transfixed unable to move out of fear. And John also stood his ground. “Joe put the gun down you are my brother…”. Joe smiled again “You should not have done this John!! It was over for when you started your act. You thought DEE would leave you?” . “You knew this would happen did you not?” There was a harsh and murderous tone in his voice. John’s body language showed that he had given up trying to escape. Now he stood there watching his own brother pointing the gun towards him. “Joe please. I am your brother!!”. Neither Abdullah nor John could find a trace of emotions on Joe

“John you should have thought this before The BOSS fell!! You hit the wrong bird and you gotta pay for this.!! “ Abdullah could not understand a word of what was happening and fear had overwhelmed him altogether. Joe continue. “It would had been nice if you had not remarked that ‘we were going off from here’ rather it got to be ‘ I am going off from here’. Traces of smile had left Joe’s face. It was simply ruthless now. A true assassin.

Even as Abdullah watched he pulled the trigger safely depositing the bullet right into the head of John. The 5’ 9” body hit the floor blood all over. Joe looked at Abdullah. “Did Allah teach you to get money and do anything??” Abdullah stood transfixed. “Do you have a family.??”. Abdullah mumbled a small “no”. Before the words had left his mouth there was a bullet into his head too shattering everything that was left there.

Joe picked up his mobile called up a number “DEE !! Caught the bird right in the head. Took another extra. Game over!! Will be there in 2 hours”

As I have told in my previous post Page rank is not alone dependent on the number of sites that has listed you .It is also greatly dependent on the number of bac links.

Hard to beleive but this is the fact.

Now please put the breaks on and stop to hear the catch!! Don rush into giving back links because every link that you provide in your site reduces your point tally in the page ranks!!!

So the more the sites lists you the more easily you can maintain your page rank

The more you back link other sites the more you are letting google know that you are asking others to list your sites to increase page ranks!! So google is not happy and reduces your page rank

The more the visitor count every day the greater the possibility of maintaining your page rank!! Tell you maintaining your page rank is very very difficult!! PR2 or a PR4 goes down if you cannot have the correct visitor count for each day.

So if your site is running low on visitors but you want to maintain your PR2 or PR4.. I would say this is not possible. The two just dont co-exist

India wins gold at Olympics 2008

Well hot news is that India managed to scamper back from two bad days at office to win a medal at the Olympics 2008

As expected the medal came early in the morning from the shooting event with Abinav bindra the young guy from Chandigarh taking the medal.

The shooting was really tough. Starting the finals in the third spot Bindra took the gold with a tense finish. Shooting a 10.8 in the last shoot was the moment India had been waiting.

After a long long time India has managed a gold medal at the Olympics. Wonderful effort by the 25 year old keeping the average high and up and running with many consistent shots right up around the 10.5 range in the finals. But he lost in the eight and the ninth round with shots around 10 range that got him down to the second position.

But a marvelous shot of 10.8 ceiled victory.

This is the first time in Indian Olympic history that India has won a gold in a individual event since 1904 when India first entered into Olympics

Well how many of you readers have ever tried to face a crunchy financial situation facing right towards you and demanding you to put in your best efforts to overcome it!!

Finally the epic battle between the UPA and the combined strength of NDA and the left has come to a end. A strong one for the congress.

In my previous blog I had commented on the way the zapak checkers is played and how it differs from the international checkers. This time with my experience in playing that game I am writing this article to give all the readers a idea of the best practices of the game.

As for as possible keep the last row of the line up in tact so tat it would be difficult for the opponent to get a king
Try to keep the pieces in the safe zone. In the sense play the pieces near the edges of the board so that it is not possible for the opponent to cancel your piece

Zapak checkers Part ii

Continuing from my last post.

So in order to prevent any sort of aiding zapak has introduced modifications to the rules as listed under. I have listed those common rules of zapak checkers

The pawn can mover only diagonally forward by one square at all normal times.
In case it has to cancel out a opponent pawn then it can do so provided the pawn is diagonally one square away from it either to its left or to the right.
All pieces move only on the black squares
The pawn can defy rule 1 provided there is another pawn diagonally one square behind the position the pawn takes after it cancels out a pawn.
In case there is option to cancel a pawn then that option has to be satisfied. You cannot make a move if you can cancel a pawn during your turn.
Unlike in the international checkers the king can move any number of squares diagonally at any point of time if it is not blocked by a piece.

People who are new to this often find this rule a bit confusing . It takes time to get adapted to these rules. But then once you get adapted its fun time there. You reach any level of expertise there is always someone better than you

Things I hate here

Yesterday was one bad day in every road I went through. The worst was while i was returning between Velachery and my house.

Half way through it was pitch dark. No lamps to illuminate the roads. Not many vehicles moving. But this road has not been officially opened yet. so it happens. I just saw two software professionals in the bike just riding before me. A guy and a gal!! and they sped off mid way.

Then suddenly on the other side I saw a someone face down on the road. His pulsar150 had skidded of the gravel left by the lorry drivers. He had injured him quite badly. I stopped the bike. But there was no one around.

Even people who went through the road merely stopped saw him lying and went off. I got off my vehicle to him But the two softwares reached first. We thought he had passed away after that accident. But gladly he breathed. We found his mobile and called the last dialled number to get a response that the person would come there soon. Until now not one stopped. But then a few passionate people came out to help. getting him off the road. Calling out the ambulance the police.

But I felt very bad for all those people who just went off even after seeing a person lying in a pool of blood. It was late when I reached home. And narrated this to my mom. Mom gave me reasons!! Seems people who help these accident victims land up in trouble with the police recording them in the case!!

Yesterday I was there at the central and this time i was there to wave a farewell to one of my very good friends- Satish Guru Dev.

The thalapa gang has produced yet another tech savy software professional and Kudos for that . But then this time it was fun getting there.

I started from home around 6 and then went to darling house. He was there waiting for me, And after a round of business meetings (so he names those vetti discussions we have!! we started to college with a idea of meeting Dev there. But a call spoiled our plans and enabled darling to carry out his with his college sweet heart.!!! well remember it was his and his alone!! not the other way around!! :))

Three tough hours for me three beautiful ones for him, then we started to central. Worst problem was finding the way. The way that was supposedly meant to be the route to be used for the vehicle park was blocked by a no entry. I ended up taking a full round of the central and reaching the exact spot before being told that that was the route I had to take. Tough time following rules in India. You follow them you land in no mans land. You dont u land up in soup.

A mad rush into the station,to reach platform 3 got us into speaking distance of Dev. We just had 6 min. He spent 3 of them over his mobile. But then a small hug, kudos and off he went.

Then it was dinner time at 10 for we both which we had at a five star, luxurious road side stall :)

Well afterall for a guy who is going away to find a life a fitting adieu is important isnt it?

In these two months after college I have wondered what made my college life interesting. Well during my college life I had thought that college was no more than a bull shit.

It was dull boring but then in these 2 months I had found yet another reason to think that my previous thoughts were just too hay wire.

Every one who passed out with me would agree that these two months would be the most dullest time of the life. Well of all the important works we got being with out any work would be the most dangerous times . I have experienced that in these two months.

Having nothing to go, no one to meet no where to go welll friends the time u pass outta college brace your friends you are in for some tough time. Its better to play things along and plan for these few free days earlier so that you would not be left pondering afterwards

Taking rest is good in these two months but at one point you lose interest in that also.

As the Manmohan Singh government braces for its first trust vote, the numbers game will be a dicey affair with fence sitters expected to have a field day.

Be it Ajit Singh's RLD or JD (S) of former prime minister H D Deve Gowda or other smaller parties and independents, all have the potential to upset the applecart of the Congress-led UPA coalition.

As one Congress leader put it, "this is the first confidence vote where the tenth schedule (anti-defection law) would be of no use" as the Lok Sabha elections are round the corner.

But, the suspense over the trust vote has deepened more as main opposition BJP appears reluctant to make much noise, which could create unnecessary problems for Left parties, whose withdrawal of support has led to the trust vote.

As there are nearly a dozen fence sitters in the Lok Sabha, both the government and the opposition are pinning high hopes on them and expecting their support.

In the Lok Sabha having an effective strength of 543, the ruling side has to cross the halfway mark of 272 to prove a simple majority and minus the support of these undecided MPs.

The ruling UPA has an assured support of 221 MPs belonging to alliance partners, which includes the Congress' 153, RJD's 24, DMK's 16 and NCP's 11. However, the five-MP JMM, although an ally of UPA, has not yet revealed its cards.

A small comment::

With the left switching over loyalties over its alleged displeasure over the government progressing with the N-Deal the balance now depends on the 11 MP who are left undecided and also the independents.

Every side seems to have only one propoganda- You want the nuclear deal u want this government. With the lefts anti-government propaganda and the congress reacting to it by appointment of 11 speakers to take its work to the people days are numbered and every side seems to be counting them.

Little does anyone know what would happen. Hands are crossed right now for the final clash of this government!!

Once again Indian finance markets have hit the news but as usual the markets have hit news for wrong reasons. The inflation is going literally right through the roof and little could be done either the Reserve Bank of India or the government. Everyone is kept as a mere spectator is these drastic turn of events.

Today the inflation has hit new peaks 11.69% for the week. A small comparison from the last years statistics clearly states the plight. Just compare this with the 4.42 that was prevalent at the same time last year. Common man is beginning to bear the brunt of the unrelenting attack on their pockets.

News articles all over the papers, comments from people at all levels of the adminstration but nothing seems to bring down this growth rate by any means.
And experts can merely state that the inflation rate would hit the 13's before anything could be done to stop it.

Early 2000 there was nothing much happening. All things were smooth except for some tainted relationships. But then on things have took the turn for the big mistake.

2008 has been nothing more than a absolute mayhem. With news reports today stating that Russia has vowed to retaliate with force, US efforts for the radar system that could place around 10 missiles in Poland , does it mean that Russia has hinted on the possible beginning of another cold war?

Israel had its share of military demonstrations aimed in June where it demonstrated its higly technical air wing with the aim of proclaiming itself a super power in Gulf region and now Iran has backfired. The testing of 10 long range and medium range missiles that could possible attack the most interior parts of Israel has expressed a strong answer to Israels military aims. "Don worry big guy.. You can always have someone of your size" is what Iran seems to says to Israel.

Political situations all over are tumbling with many powers still very much unstable. Even India's ruling coalition has faced a possible oust following the break up over the nuclear deal with America. And I would say all these has resulted in the financial markets going Haywire.

The stock markets have been facing new lows almost in every part of the world. What was regarded as a very safe situation promising very good gains in early 2008 has now turned out to be a total loss for investors. And with the Oil prices on the constant upsurge the result of the stock market turmoil is no where to face a turn about.

If this is not enough .. the nature has tried to express its disinterest in the way men have been treating it for quite a few centuries. Climates have changed. And global warming has emerged as a hot spot topic, A topic which people feel is worth talking about.

Its time something very unnatural happens that could very well turn the tide around and lead the world away from all the pending disasters. But what is that Mr.Unnatural and when will that happen????

When Kenny Sahr started School Sucks three years ago, the 28-year-old had an unusual business scheme: to post free homework assignments online.

With only one term paper, he bought the domain schoolsucks.com for US$100. Now, the free term-paper site receives ad revenue in six digits, doubling every year.

"We've been profitable from Day 1," Sahr said.

School Sucks is one of many online term paper mills or "cheat sites" on the Internet, where students can download prewritten term papers for free or for a modest fee.

Term paper mills are nothing new to students; mail-order services have long been popular on college campuses. But with the Internet, such services are thriving. School Sucks is far from being alone in the growing, and lucrative, term-paper online service market.

Cheater.com, created by 18-year-old Paul Roberts, averages about 60,000 page views per day. Dorian's Paper Archive, a site run out of a Harvard sophomore's dorm room, offers free essays on topics from Japanese history to Shakespeare.

For fee-based term paper services such as The Evil House of Cheat, which has over 9,500 essays and over 4,000 visitors a day, business is booming -- much to the consternation of academics.

And then there's John Barrie, who may be the phenomenon's worst nightmare. Barrie, a doctoral candidate at the University of California at Berkeley, created Plagiarism.org as a technical solution to "wipe out term paper mills."

Plagiarism.org aims to turn the tables on student-run cheat sites by giving educators a tool to check potentially plagiarized works.

"The problem is huge," said Barrie. "We're seeing a 10 to 15 percent rate of plagiarism in universities where we are testing."

By David Goldman, CNNMoney.com staff writer Once again, the 1995 Honda Civic was the most stolen car in America, according to the National Insurance Crime Bureau, but auto theft appears to have declined dramatically for the fourth year in a row.

In its annual "Hot Wheels" report, the NICB said the '95 Civic was followed by the '91 Honda Accord, the '89 Toyota Camry and the '97 Ford F-150 as the nation's most stolen cars in 2007. The top four on the list are unchanged from 2006. For the fourth year in a row, the '95 Civic has been in the top 10.

But overall vehicle theft dropped 8.9% in 2007, according to the FBI's preliminary Uniform Crime Report. Incidences of auto theft have declined nationally every year since 2004.

"The continuing national decrease in vehicle theft is a positive sign that the fight against vehicle theft by law enforcement, the insurance industry and the NICB continues to be effective," said Robert M. Bryant, NICB's chief executive in a statement.

License plate readers, "bait cars," and increased law enforcement funding have helped to dampen auto theft too, but the most effective and simplest way to prevent cars from being stolen is for owners to lock their doors.

"It's amazing to see how many folks get their cars stolen from leaving their keys in them," said NICB spokesman Frank Scafidi. "People should just use some basic common sense."

In addition to using car locks, owners can take a wide array of measures to protect their vehicles, NICB said. The bureau recommends car alarms, "kill switches," and fuel cut-off tools as inexpensive but effective deterrents to theft. More expensive gadgets are available too that will track stolen cars to help police and owners recover them.

"They won't help if someone is determined to steal your car, but most deterrents make potential thieves go to another target," said Scafidi.

Older models are bigger targets

Older model Hondas and Toyotas consistently top the list, because of their popularity and reliability. In other words, there are just a lot of them still on the road, making them a bigger target.

Additionally, many of those old Honda and Toyota models stayed the same for years, making them even more valuable for their parts.

"They were the same for two or three model years," said Scafidi. "They're just like the GM cars in the 1980s where you could take the bumper off a Pontiac and put it on a Buick."

Following in the top ten were the '94 Chevrolet C/K 1500 Pickup, the '94 Acura Integra, the '04 Dodge Ram Pickup, the '94 Nissan Sentra, and the '88 Toyota Pickup at No. 9.

In just its first year on the road, the 2007 Toyota Corolla made its way to No. 10 on the list.

Times online publishes a ranking of UK institutions every year and this is a comprehensive listing. But the main problem with ranking the uk institutions is that there is no ranking of individual subjects

Nine key aspects are weighed in constituting the league table. The totals for all universities were transformed to a scale where the top score was set at 1,000, with those for the remaining universities being a proportion of that score. If a university was missing any data, the total score was based on the remaining data available.

Student satisfaction: a view of the learning experience at the university, taken from part of the National Student Survey in 2005. The survey It is a measure of student opinion, not a direct measure of quality. Scottish universities were not included and a small number of English ones had insufficient data.

Research assessment: average quality of researchby all staffat the university, from the 2001 Research Assessment Exercise.

Entry standards: average fullfull UCAS tariff score of new students under age 21, from the HESA (Higher Education Statistics Agency) in 2003/04. At A level, an A grade is 120 points, B 100, C 80, D 60, and E 40. AS grades are worth halfas much.

Student-staff ratio: average number of students per staff member at the university, taken from HESA data for 2003/04.

Library/computing spend: average expenditure per student on library and computing facilities, from HESA data between 2001 and 2004.

Facilities spend: average expenditure per student on facilities such as sports, careers services, health and counselling, from HESA data between 2001 and 2004.

Good honours: percentage of graduates achieving a first or upper second class degree, from HESA data for 2003-04.

Graduate prospects: the percentage of a university’s UK graduates in “graduate” employment or further study, from HESA data for 2003-04. Only occupations that normally need a degree were included.

Completion: the percentage of students at each university who are expected to graduate, including those who transfer to other institutions to complete courses, mainly from HESA data for 2003/04 and earlier years.

Hi all..

Just thought I myt give you a few tips on pursuing masters in the United Kingdom. With the growing higher education industry the prospects looms larger than ever. United Kingdom offers a whole new bouquet of courses matching all the sections of the students population. Research and survey published recently shows that the higher education industry is growing by leaps and bounds hitting the 16 billion dollar mark in 2007. This means more and more people are moving to the higher education. But what is the biggest challenge to people is that.. ARE THEY REALLY ACQUIRING VALUE FOR THEIR MONEY?? I Cannot answer this question in a way apt for all situations. But still I am bringing out a few points to clarify the initial doubts. More will be elaborated in blogs to come.

As you can evidently see.. UK masters courses are very short. Every course has 3 semesters each spanning a period of one year unlike the US masters courses that span for a year and a half
Short courses not only mean lesser expenditure in terms of tuition fee, living expenses and accommodation but it also means the whole course has to be imparted to you in a year. So you can expect a tight schedule.
Its quite natural that the medium of instruction here is English which is a neutral medium unlike Germany and Russia where in the courses mostly are taught in their home languages.
UK has a huge population of international courses enrolled in its post graduate courses
Also UK has some flexible rules in its way of taking the education scenario
As a student its quite easier to get a visa to move to the UK for studies.
Also UK requires trained migrant population and If you exhibit the skills needed you might as well extend your stay there permanently.
And the tuition fee there is really cheap. ranging around 7000-9000 pounds a annum

So what do you require??

A bachelors degree with atleast 65 % aggregate and a IELTS score (that is quite mandatory)

ENGINEER AT LAST

Hi guys..

Sorry I couldnt write that often dese days. Anyway.. I am back.. Nice to meet you all back...

Hot news of the day is many of we guys finally became ENGINEERS... haha... Even we became engineers... Can we believe that???

The results of our final semester was released just two days back. It was with no surprises really.. Grades as expected. Typical CEG grading. You know about these grades right???

They have a whole long procedure for giving you grades. Says that the computer often gives the grades employing some hot statistical technique. Also is told that the staff has no hand to play in the grading process of the students for the subjects. but its not that different any semester. You set a trend by getting some grade and GPA for a particular semester the computer employs all its algorithms in giving u a GPA similiar to that every semester.
The aggregate may vary by points but it maintains on the whole. stays as such. Jumping up the grade would mean some very well liked subjects and some exemplary performance from you. Which is of course very hard to attain.

Immediately after our exams ... a week or so after that Industrial got their grade. Shocked to see 5 arrears in the final semesters also. Crude yet thats CEG for u.. But this is one thing very good about my department. They have a look at your grades for everything u do. It reflects. But hardly do you find any arrears in the department subjects. You have to work really hard to get those.

Any way our anxiety was cut short last week. The results have come and we are engineers now any way.. So . No worries.. Lets rock.. Time to step into the new world.. Meet you with new and old updates soon...
